Function: To lower pH level in the pool water

pH down is used to lower pH and decrease total alkalinity in pool water. In pools with high pH or total alkalinity, adding pH down can help maintain the water balance of a swimming pool. pH down is user-friendly, does not damage surfaces as easily if spilled or splashed accidentally. It can also be stored in a wider range of conditions. pH down is added directly to well-circulated swimming pool water, and will readily dissolve. Testing swimming pool pH and also testing total alkalinity should be done immediately prior to adding pH down and ideally again after about six hours later, making sure to test within 24 hours. How long do you have to wait after you put pH down in the pool? It is recommended to wait at least wait 2-4 hours (or one full cycle through the filter) to swim from the moment you use pH down in your pool. How much pH down to add? This depends on just how high the pH is and the size of the pool. If you are using test strips, it's usually hard to determine exactly how high the pH level is; you just know it's high. A better test kit, or a DPD drop test kit, will use phenol red to give you a better idea of your true pH reading. Some better test kits include an "acid demand" test to help calculate a more precise dosage.
